Custom web applications developers
External Design produces web applications to help businesses run efficiently, with more flow and fewer snags.
New uses for familiar tools
A typical web-based solution uses familiar interface elements to enable its users to perform useful or interesting tasks. For example, one of our custom web applications helped a client, using only a web browser, to calculate complex manufacturing orders that were instantly available to external vendors. And it allowed those vendors, in turn, to display each item's progress through the production cycle. Total staff training time: about 15 minutes.

Why a web application?

We do not believe every application should follow a cloud-based or web-application model. But in many cases, the economy, scale and portability of a web app are inarguably attractive. Compelling features shared by many web applications include:
- No special software is required, just a computer with an off-the-shelf, standards-compliant web browser. Some web apps may insist on a particular web browser, but that typically results from system-developer choices we routinely advise against, in most cases.
- The familiar, web-browser-based controls and user interface tap into users' experience and comfort levels with the web medium, making it almost natural to build software that is easier to learn and to use.
- Using widely accepted internet technologies means there is a large number of talented people to support your applications — you aren't held hostage by proprietary tools.
- It is very convenient to be able, with just a web browser and internet connection, to collaborate with contracted labor, other offices, field personnel…
- You can track projects from virtually anywhere, update databases and even import the data collected (or calculated) by the web application into Microsoft Excel, Outlook and other familiar office software applications to develop a truly integrated business workflow — from remote web browser to server to desktop office applications.
Building a web application may be more cost effective even for small businesses. You get a program focused on doing what you want, and doing it well, because it was custom-built to your purposes.
